The Benefits of Using Larsen Mortar Plasticiser
Whether you're laying bricks, rendering walls, or plastering, choosing the right admixture can make a noticeable difference to both application and final finish. At Larsen Building Products, our range of mortar plasticisers is specifically developed to improve workability, durability, and the overall quality of site-mixed mortars.
What is a Mortar Plasticiser?
A mortar plasticiser is a chemical admixture added during the mixing process. Its main role is to improve the workability and cohesion of mortar, making it easier to spread, handle, and apply.
Plasticisers work by introducing microscopic air bubbles into the mix. These bubbles reduce water surface tension and act as a lubricant between sand particles, resulting in smoother flow and easier trowelling.
Larsen Mortar Plasticisers are formulated using a carefully selected blend of synthetic surfactants, delivering consistent, high-quality performance on site.
Key Benefits of Larsen Mortar Plasticiser
Enhanced Workability – Without Lime
Larsen plasticisers provide the same level of workability as lime, without the associated handling difficulties. This simplifies the mixing process, reduces labour time, and improves on-site efficiency.
Improved Frost Resistance
By entraining fine air bubbles, plasticisers increase mortar resistance to freeze-thaw cycles. This makes them particularly valuable for external masonry and winter construction work.
Reduced Shrinkage and Crazing
The use of plasticiser helps minimise shrinkage cracking and surface crazing, resulting in a smoother, more durable finish for both brickwork and rendered surfaces.
Lower Water Demand
Plasticisers reduce the amount of water required in the mix while maintaining excellent workability. This leads to stronger, denser mortar and helps limit drying shrinkage.
Chloride-Free Formulation
All Larsen mortar plasticisers are chloride-free, making them safe for use with steel reinforcement and reducing the risk of
corrosion-related damage.
